Six years ago, Covid lockdown slowed everything down. It was awful and scary. But sometimes, I was grateful. I am privileged to live in Victoria, BC with plenty of beautiful outdoor space nearby, all year round. Lockdown invited me to see this privilege and to feel grateful for any light in dark times.
It helped me be intentional about connecting with my loved ones. We got around social distancing by going on frequent walks like this one at Swan Lake. Listening to my Bird-Nerd friends squeal over every little creature we saw, I’d like to say I learned a lot, but let’s be real - to me, the birds still look like LBJs (“little brown jobs”). In reality, I was just absorbing and storing the light to shine it later. Now. Through my art.
